Almost half of women working in convenience (47%) don’t feel confident approaching outside organisations for business support.
The results come from Newtrade Media’s Women in Convenience’s second retailer survey, launched earlier this year.
When asked what would help them feel more confident in approaching organisations, nearly 70% said advice from a female retailer who has relevant experience, followed by general confidence training (48%), online or print resources that provide guidance on the type of questions to ask (40%), and advice from a male retailer who has relevant experience (32%).
Despite this, those surveyed revealed they receive the least equal treatment from male retailers, followed by local authorities, supplier reps, banks and other financial institutions.
In addition, 100% of respondents who are not taking action to address the unequal treatment they and their female colleagues receive, are not doing so because they explained they aren’t sure what to do.
