Retailers face heightened competition in providing digital payments vouchers, following a new tie-up between WHSmith and PayPoint for i-movo vouchers.

The move makes WHSmith the first UK retailer to implement the i-movo service across both assisted and self-checkout tills, bringing the service to 61,500 points-of-sale in 77% of UK postcodes.

Under the i-movo service, the public can pay for goods from partnered suppliers and for government services using digital vouchers from their smartphones.

Lyndon Hearn, chief information officer at WHSmith, said the company was “committed” to delivering fast, convenient store experiences for customers while reducing its environmental impact. He added: “We are pleased to be partnering with PayPoint and integrating our systems with i-movo, which supports both of these goals.”

Jo Toolan, managing director for payments & client services at PayPoint, said: “Our solutions for brands and publishers are now extremely mature and well proven. We are delighted that the i-movo service now includes WHSmith, one of the most familiar and trusted names in the UK retail landscape.”
