WHSmith has assured Local franchisees of continued support for the remainder of their contracts, despite operating with a reduced field team.
Last year, the chain announced it would no longer renew its Local contracts, offering retailers the option to continue a wholesale partnership instead.
Stores ‘abandoned’ as WHSmith Local ended
Mark Dudden, of WHSmith Local Albany Road in Cardiff, said: “My contract ends in September, but I’ve had no communication about the next stage. I know support staff are on furlough.”
A spokesperson said: “We offer our full support to franchisees for their remaining term and in line with our contractual obligations. We have also provided additional communications and guidance for franchisees continuing to trade during the coronavirus crisis.”
