Welsh 20mph speed limit affects newspaper and grocery deliveries

'Until you’ve measured the impact on your business, you can’t know how best to respond'

20mph speed limit road sign wales welsh zone law

Store owners in Wales have been urged to measure the impact of the new 20mph speed limit in built-up areas. The change, which began in mid-September, affects one in three roads in Wales.

District president Vince Malone told Better Retailing that while he had seen no change in newspaper or grocery delivery times, it was affecting his store’s news and grocery deliveries to the doorstep. “Across three-to-four morning rounds, it adds between 10 and 20 minutes a day. That works out as an extra £980 a year in wage costs,” he said.

The Tenby Stores & Post Office owner has invested in an MEV Cargo electric vehicle to help offset the costs. He said: “Until you’ve measured the impact on your business, you can’t know how best to respond.”
