Web to drive future Booker sales growth

Charles Wilson

Booker has posted total sales of £4.7bn for the 52 weeks ended March 2014, which is a 17.3% increase on last year.

Like-for-like sales, not including Makro, were up 2.1% year on year, with non-tobacco sales up 4.4% and tobacco sales down 1.7%. Premier saw sales growth of 12% after 11 consecutive years of double-digit growth. Internet sales increased by 10% to £777m.

Booker chief executive Charles Wilson (pictured) said: “We know we could grow web sales but we need more delivery capacity. One of the reasons for Makro is that it allows us to put more delivery capacity into the market so we can grow our deliveries to retailers.”
