A grassroots group started on Facebook to represent Postmaster’s across the UK has partnered with the Community trade union.
Voice of the Postmaster (VOtP) announced the memorandum of understanding in a meeting in Sheffield last week. It’s three core aims are fair renumeration for postmasters, independent representation, and transparency from Post Office Ltd about the future of every branch.
VotP chair Richard Trinder said: “As with all successful voluntary organisations you reach a point where your success demands more of your time and you need professional guidance to ensure you are optimising every opportunity to properly represent the very people who have put their faith in you to protect their futures.
“We decided to approach Community Union, who we believe are best placed to help us on the next stage of our journey. I would urge every postmaster to join with Community Union to make sure that you have your say.”
Voice of the Postmaster aims to prevent another Post Office scandal
Community is a trade union representing workers in a variety of sectors. These include steel, manufacturing, logistics and warehousing, financing and more. It was founded in 2004.
Community Union’s Assistant Operations director Tiffany Gillies said: “The grassroots growth of VOtP over recent years has been inspiring to see, and they are now providing a strong voice in the corner of postmasters across the country. We look forward to a long future of working together on issues affecting our memberships.”
Voice of the Postmaster (VotP) was formed in 2022 and has grown from a Facebook page to more than 1000 members. It was set up after a public enquiry exposed more claims that the National Federation of Sub Postmasters (NFSP) failed to act over the Horizon IT system warnings. It campaigns, under the banner “Saying no to a 2nd Post Office scandal”.
