E-cigarette use among young people falls in Wales

A spokesperson for ASH Wales said: 'This evidence demonstrates that vaping is not a public health concern'

Vaping leads to higher Covid-19 risk in young people

Research by Cardiff University has shown e-cigarette use among young people has fallen for the first time in Wales.

Twenty-two per cent of young people had tried an e-cigarette, down from 25% in 2017. Those vaping weekly or more often declined from 3.3% to 2.5%.

However, the decline in 11- to-16-year-olds smoking has stalled at 4%.

Vaping more effective than patches

The findings also show that experimenting with vaping is more popular than trying tobacco. Retailers should be aware that smoking and vaping products should not be sold to anyone under the age of 18.

Suzanne Cass, ASH Wales chief executive, told the BBC: “This evidence demonstrates that vaping is not a public health concern.”
