VAR will be introduced in the Premier League for the first time and could prolong matches by up to 15 minutes, forcing extended cut-off times.
Home news deliverer Andrew White told Better Retailing: “In March, an extension was applied for a match, and the morning papers were late, but 75% didn’t have the final score. Evening games are often on Friday and papers are later on Saturday, so longer matches will compound the issue.”
A major publisher told Better Retailing it did not envisage VAR impacting its distribution during the new football season.
