Shop owners are having deliveries cancelled due to Ultra Low Emission Zones (ULEZ).
Newcastle introduced a £12.50 charge for all vehicles that do not meet emissions standards in July. Neeraj Bedi, owner of Metro Express in Newcastle, said he was informed last month that his dairy supplier was no longer able to supply his shop.
It was similar for Highgate Newsagents in Birmingham, which introduced a low-emissions zone in 2021. “Our milk supplier said they would no longer work with us because it wasn’t cost effective to drive in,” one staff member told Better Retailing at the time.
The trend comes as stores in other areas, including London, Aberdeen and Edinburgh, are to soon be covered by low-emission zones.
