Comparing the prices of Christmas confectionery
Behind the numbers
Confectionery is a billion-pound sales driver over the festive period, as people look for gifts, sharing packs and impulse treats to enjoy.
Keeping pricing sensible helps sell through stock before the end of the season, but there are still opportunities to widen margins. Countlines provide one such opportunity – 57% of retailers are charging up to 79p for a Maltesers Reindeer, with 42% sticking to the most-common price of 50p. Meanwhile, 45% are charging up to 89p for a Cadbury Puds Egg, with 52% keeping the most-common price, also 50p.
There are also chances to review pricing on larger formats. Forty-seven per cent price Celebrations 650g up to £7.99, compared with the most-common price of £5 set by 52%.
The largest difference between highest and most-common prices comes from Quality Street 600g: though 73% stick to £4, a small proportion are pricing almost three times as much, up to £10.99.
