The 1,500sq ft store began trading at the start of July.
It occupies the site of a former McColl’s and is supplied and developed by wholesaler JW Filshill, which is part of wholesale buying group Unitas Wholesale.
Within Scotland, Unitas previously only had Today’s-branded convenience stores under the Day-Today fascia, which are managed by another member of the buying group, United Wholesale.
JW Filshill retail sales director Craig Brown told Better Retailing that the opening of the Today’s Extra store could lead to further shops operating under this fascia.
“It’s only been a month since its opening, but trade has been quite positive. It’s managed by the same retailer who runs a KeyStore-branded shop a mile away. He wanted to open another store, but didn’t want to use another KeyStore fascia,” he said.
“We’ve not identified any particular categories that have stood out, but we’re currently trialling displays and stands under the Scottish government’s Healthy Living scheme, which promotes healthier choices to customers.”
