Tobacco-free Scotland initiative drums up support

ASH Scotland has announced that 100 organisations have pledged support for its campaign for a tobacco-free generation by 2034.

One hundred organisations have signed up to support an initiative to make Scotland tobacco-free.

The pledges backed Scotland’s Charter for a Tobacco-free Generation, a scheme pushing for a smoking population of less than 5% by 2034.

John Lee, head of policy & public affairs at the Scottish Grocers Federation, said support for the Charter could be an indicator of Government plans.

“These initiatives from ASH Scotland might provide an indication of the measures we can expect to see in the Scottish Government’s refreshed tobacco control strategy,” he said.

MSP Maree Todd said that promoting the Charter would help the Government achieve its aim of keeping smoking in decline.
