Thieves are targeting Smiths News-supplied stores in the Sussex area, snatching tote boxes and collectables. Better Retailing understands that a number of retailers have had their deliveries targeted over multiple days. Criminals are allegedly following Smiths News delivery vans and looting unattended boxes dropped outside premises.
In some instances, the criminals opened the totes and took collectables. In others they took the whole box.
More secure deliveries
Referencing the incidents near Gatwick and Crawley, a spokesperson for Smiths News said: “These thefts have occurred subsequent to the completion of deliveries by our drivers and their departure from the premises. We have engaged with retailers to explore the implementation of more secure delivery points for their shipments, aiming to prevent further incidents.
