Tesco axes cleaning contracts

Tesco has revealed it will be axing its contract cleaners in nearly 2,000 stores.

According to reports, the extra duties will be given to staff in Express and Metro stores from 24 August. They will now be required to clean floors and windows, as well as shelves and fridges.

The comments come a week after claims the supermarket chain is no longer following social distancing guidelines.

Commenting on Twitter, one customer said: “I don’t think I’ll continue to shop at Tesco if staff are cleaning toilets and then stacking shelves.”
