Tchibo to increase daily coffee machine costs for retailers

From April, the price of machines will rise by £1-2

Tchibo is to increase the daily costs of its coffee machines by £1-2 from April, due to “dramatic increases in operational costs”.

In a letter sent to stores on 22 February, seen by Better Retailing, the firm said: “Since we last wrote, we have continued to see dramatic increases in operational costs, including the impact of the real living wage and most notably the price of energy. This significantly affects the cost of producing roasted coffee and other supply chain products. Therefore we must apply a price increase”.

The changes will see the daily cost of Tchibo to Go machines rise by £1, while Smokin’ Bean machines will increase by £2. Better Retailing understands the upcoming rises follow price increases in 2022 at the same rate.

One affected retailer told Better Retailing that the increase would see them paying £11.99 per day for their machine. They added: “My machine is a loss-leader for me, so will likely get rid of it.”

Tchibo has been approached for comment.
