Things have been moving slowly in recent weeks, which I think is largely due to the bad weather.
We’ve had a lot of snow and ice, so it seems people are going online to do their shopping.
We also have stiff competition from the Poundstretcher and B&M nearby as we’re having to compete with their £1 offers while trying to make a profit.
We have to think outside the box to attract customers with our own promotions. However, summer is around the corner and I’m optimistic that things will pick up.
I find that alcohol sales spike in the summer as people are happier and want to get together more often
We’re planning on doing some alcohol promotions as the warmer months approach and to capitalise on parties, barbecues and gatherings that will be planned. Although Christmas is known as the party season, I find that alcohol sales spike in the summer as people are happier and want to get together more often.
After I finish my business degree in two months, I plan on putting more effort into finding a location for a potential second shop. My parents and I haven’t found anywhere that suits us yet as the market is slow and what’s available is too expensive.
Ideally, I’d like to open a grocery store that also includes a post office, which will attract more customers. My aim is to focus on presentation of the produce as well as the staff, with regular promotions and products stacked high.
