Symbol groups have ranked lower than premium supermarket convenience chains for value for money, according to the 2019 Which? convenience store report.
In a survey of 9,000 convenience store customers, M&S Simply Food and Little Waitrose were given five out of five stars for value for money, while Co-op had been awarded four stars.
In comparison, McColl’s and Best-one were given just one star, while two-star symbol groups included Londis, Spar, Premier, Costcutter and One Stop.
Which? researcher Hannah Walsh said McColl’s, Costcutter and Londis had received one star for own-label quality. “Frequent shoppers should be greeted by a good in-store experience, but for many customers this isn’t the case,” she explained.
