Londis and Budgens stores had frozen deliveries temporarily stopped to help manage product quality and health and safety during the UK’s heatwave.
On 18-19 July, the UK experienced an unprecedented heatwave as temperatures in some areas exceeded 40°C. In response to the soaring temperatures, Booker Retail Partners (BRP) took the decision to temporarily stop frozen deliveries to Londis and Budgens stores from 18 to 20 July.

In a letter sent to retailers, and seen by Better Retailing, the firm said: “The capping of frozen products has been extended to 20 July. Produced is picked and loaded the day before and, with the break in the hot weather not expected until Wednesday, there is a high risk to product quality and health and safety.”
BRP wasn’t the only wholesaler to see deliveries impacted by the warmer weather. Nisa took the decision to temporarily cap orders from 15 July.
