Convenience stores better for the planet, say consumers

Over a third of consumers believe that shopping at convenience stores is better for the environment, according to a new report.

Convenience expert TWC said last week 70% of consumers are concerned about environmental and sustainability issues.

Communications director Sarah Coleman urged independent retailers to identify which elements resonate with customers.

“There is an opportunity to talk up the environmental benefits of shopping at convenience stores,” she said. “For example, walking to the store and collaborations with local businesses that drive the local economy.”

Coleman admitted “local lines from small suppliers are not going to deliver volume and so these demands can be at odds” for retailers. She said range choices must balance core lines to meet this need.
