deposit return scheme

New not-for-profit organisation, Circularity Scotland Limited has completed its application to the government for approval to operate Scotland’s deposit return scheme (DRS).

The group was founded last month by a combination of companies and trade associations representing their broader drinks-producer and retail members, including AG Barr, C&C Group, Coca-Cola European Partners, Highland Spring Group, British Beer and Pub Association, British Soft Drinks Association and Natural Source Waters Association.

An industry source revealed a “robust” application was submitted last week, detailing how much stores will get paid for handling returns and how frequently bottles will be collected.

Its unknown when the government is likely to respond, but its been suggested the upcoming elections in May could delay their decision.
