The future of many convenience stores added to pubs during the pandemic is set to be decided in the coming months, according to landlords.

Pubs to keep grocery store offerings after lockdown

Mypubshop launched last spring to help pubs set up shops so they could continue trading. The scheme ended in July, but some pubs continued their retail offering, and scheme backers Bestway predicted convergence between pubs and shops to continue.

Convenience alcohol boost following 10pm pub curfew

Helen Lawrence, owner of the King’s Head in Cacklebury, East Sussex, told Better Retailing: “We’re still going with the scheme – pies and quiches are particularly popular. [Running the shop] is very time-consuming and it’s hard to know if we will continue once we reopen. If people are still wanting the service, we would try to accommodate them.”
