A university campus convenience store has become the first Spar in the UK to have a cashless self-checkout system installed.
The self-checkouts were put into the Spar at Lancaster University after its distributor James Hall & Co looked into options for improving speed of service in busier stores in the area.
“Customers welcome innovation and people really dislike queuing,” said Sheridan Hindle, IT director at James Hall.
“The owners of Spar Lancaster University were very enthusiastic about the project. It’s been extremely successful, with almost 30% of customers using it on a daily basis.”
