Spar’s wholesaler partners with Too Good To Go app to reduce surplus food

Spar’s primary wholesaler in the north of England, James Hall & Co Ltd have successfully partnered with Too Good To Go to reduce food waste across all of its company owned Spar stores.

All Spar stores in Liverpool, Leeds, Newcastle and Northwich under the name of G&E Murgatroyd will participate in the initiative.

The wholesaler, began trialing the Too Good To Go app in September 2020, with it initially being limited to 10 company owned stores in Lancashire and Merseyside, before being rolled out to a wider 45 stores.

“Since we launched the partnership service 12 months ago, it has brought multiple benefits to our business, including reducing costs and saving a huge amount of waste food.

“Not only that, it has enabled us to better connect with the communities we service across northern England who know they can access a healthy, wholesome meal at a reduced price at a G&E Murgatroyd Spar.” She said.

In the last 12 months, the app has saved 22,393 meals with over 280,000 views on the app and the service being used by more than 10,000 customers who have been able to access food worth £10 for an average value of £3.09.

The expansion now means customers using the Too Good TO Go app can now access the service at all 150 company owned stores in Cheshire, County Durham, Cumbria, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear, and Yorkshire.
