Spar launches two wine ranges to make shopping simpler

Convenience retailers should make wine as simple as possible for shoppers with clear pricing and brands that suit different levels of expertise.

Convenience retailers should make wine as simple as possible for shoppers with clear pricing and brands that suit different levels of expertise.

That was the advice of Edward Evans, Spar head of beers, wines and spirits at the launch of the company’s new wine ranges earlier this month.

“This is phase one of a long-term plan to introduce wine to more shoppers and help them to trade up,” he said.

Spar’s ‘Everyday Drinking’ range contains Fresh Rosé, Fruity White, Crisp White, Smooth Red and Bold Red, RRP £5.

There is also a varietals range, which contains 12 lines like Pinot Grigio, Shiraz, Malbec and Chardonnay, RRP £6.

“Shoppers who are new to wine will be focused on whether they want white or red, but as they learn more about wine, the next decision they make is grape type or variety,” Evans said.

The company will launch phase two of the plan next spring, which will include regionals and range exclusives.

Spar also unveiled an own-label Premium Botanical Hand Crafted London Dry Gin, which comes in 70cl bottles and has an ABV of 40%.
