Smiths News has confirmed it will be offering an option to “go paperless” for stores later this month.
The option will go live this month on Smiths’ SNapp and online, which the wholesaler said will “enable retailers to manage their business in a paperless way”.
Better Retailing understands several retailers expressed concerns that they would be “pushed” into using the option, but Smiths confirmed this isn’t the case.
A spokesperson for Smiths said retailers will receive paper copies until they switch to paperless on SNapp themselves, and outlined how the process is already used by a number of major retail groups.
They added: “There is no reason why independent retailers can’t take advantage of the same flexibility of electronic documents that are easier to store, send and organise than the paper-based alternatives. Our goal over the next two years is for most of our customers to move to paperless on SNapp.”
Fed national president, Muntazir Dipoti added: “We look forward to having discussions that illustrate how these savings are being passed onto our members.”
