Post Office to offer accessible and affordable proof of age photo-ID

The new PASS cards can be accepted by retailers as proof of age when asked for ID

The UK’s longest-established photo-ID scheme CitizenCard has teamed up with the Post Office (PO) to issue PO PASS cards.

The Home Office and police-endorsed proof of age standards system (PASS) cards hologram on each card means that shops, bars, cinemas, clubs and travel operators can trust the cards as valid form of proof of age and photo ID.

The PASS cards from the PO will cost fifteen pounds and is easy to apply for online via postoffice.citizencard.com

The PO PASS card is issued by CitizenCard and is available to 18+ and has under 18 versions. The cards displays the NPCC and SIA logos.

Andrew Chevis, chief executive of CItizenCard, wants people to leave their important documents at home and the reduce the risk of them being lost.

He said: “Lost passports and driving licenses are difficult and expensive to replace. So, I’m thrilled that the PO will be using its longstanding expertise in identity services to offer PASS cards to a wider audience.

Elinor Hull, PO’s identity service director, believe the PO PASS card will help millions of people in the UK who cannot afford official photo identification like a passport or driving license.

She said: “At PO our ambition is to make it easier and more affordable for everyone to access the products and services to which they’re entitled.

“Our new EasyID app lets anyone use their smart phone to prove who they are or how olde they are, and now the PO PASS card lets anyone obtain an affordable proof of age/photo-ID to keep in their purse or wallet.”

The PO launched EasyID as a safe way to prove identity online and in person from a smartphone.
