Scottish Budget: 50% business rates relief to be introduced for the retail sector

Finance secretary Kate Forbes delivered the Scottish Budget 2021 on Thursday 9 December 2021 to the Scottish Parliament.

The speech included Scotland’s spending plans, the finance secretary revealed the government’s spending and tax plans for 2022-2023.

The finance secretary’s statement marks the first joint Budget reveal from the SNP and Green government after a deal was agreed between the two parties following the election earlier this year.

Scotland’s Budget, follows England’s own budget announced by Tory’s chancellor Rishi Sunak delivered in October.

Opposition parties in Scotland have demanded additional funding to be included in the Budget, with the Scottish Conservatives pushing for an increased £62 million to tackle crime and Scottish Labour demanding tax relief for high street businesses who suffered the most during the pandemic, according to reports by The Scotsman
