Scotland has more convenience stores per head of population than most parts of the UK, according to the Scottish Grocers Federation (SGF) and ACS’s Local Shop Report 2021.
The latest document confirms sector turnover is expected to grow in the country by 9% between 2021 and 2024, highlighting the growing importance of convenience stores, with 54% having the most positive impact on their local area.

Referencing the past 18 months, 58% of store owners agreed the Coronavirus pandemic had improved their business’ standing in their communities, with average basket spend totalling £10.82, with 3.3 items.
Mobile phone top-ups was the most popular service provided by Scottish stores (82%), followed by the lottery (81%), bill payments (76%), cashback (70%) and free-to-use cash machines (49%).
