Lucozade and Ribena manufacturer Suntory Beverage & Food GB&I (SBF GB&I) is to raise prices across 37 lines, while temporarily discontinuing production of seven products.
In a message sent to retailers, seen by Better Retailing, one wholesaler said the increases would be implemented from 1 December, 2022. The changes affect Lucozade Original, Orange, Sport and ready to drink variants of Ribena. Lucozade Orange 500ml, for example, has seen its RRP increase from £1.59 to £1.69. Elsewhere, a serious production failure has forced the supplier to temporarily discontinue production of certain variants of Lucozade Zero Original, Lucozade Energy Apple, Lucozade Zero Energy, Lucozade Zero Original, Lucozade Zero Tropical and Lucozade Citrus Chill.
SBF GB&I sales director Alpesh Mistry said: “Over the past 12 months we have all been faced with an unprecedented set of circumstances which have presented major industry-wide pressures. These include the rise in the costs of packaging, commodities, and logistics among many others. We have sought to swallow as many of these incremental costs as possible within our business. Our drinks remain competitively priced and value for money.
Commenting on the production failure, he added: “We have a sole external source of PET bottles which allows us to streamline packaging transportation requirements and reduce CO2 emissions. Unfortunately, our supplier had a serious production failure which means we are having to prioritise our core Lucozade Energy Original, Orange and Lucozade Zero drinks over other Lucozade Energy flavours for the next few months. Lucozade Sport and Ribena remain unaffected by this issue.”
