Retailers left to find new security alarm supplier ahead of BT Redcare closure

The telecom firm's alarm division describes itself as the "largest supplier of fire and security systems in the UK"

Independent retailers will be required to source a new security alarm provider, as BT Redcare is to close its operations from August 2025.

Redcare is telecoms firm BT’s security division, providing intruder and fire alarm systems to both businesses and homes across the UK. The firm describes itself as “the largest supplier of fire and security alarm signalling systems in the UK.”

One independent retailer told Better Retailing Redcare is one of two main providers of security systems, meaning many independent retailers will be forced to find a new supplier. “There’s only one other competitor, it’s like Pepsi and Coca-Cola,” they added.

Customers had been informed of the closure through written communication, seen by Better Retailing, on 1 February. It said: “We have made the decision to cease all new Redcare orders with immediate effect. BT Redcare support will be in place until all services have been moved to an alternative supplier or business closure on 1 August, 2025.”

An official notice on BT Redcare’s website read: “BT has made the difficult decision to close all BT Redcare operations on 1 August 2025.

“We appreciate that this will not be welcome news, so we are giving as much notice as we possibly can.

“Your usual BT Redcare contact will be on hand to help answer any questions you may have.”

A BT spokesperson said: “As part of our strategy to simplify our business portfolio and focus on delivering core products and services for our customers, we have decided to close our Redcare business in 2025.

“We have informed all our Redcare customers, to give them enough advance notice to find alternative suppliers – and we will be supporting them during this process.”
