The National Federation of Subpostmasters (NFSP) has recruited 15 retailers to run post offices through its Buy a Post Office service.
Retailers who use the service, which was launched in August, are provided with details of subpostmasters who are selling their post offices. They are then given advice on how to successfully put forward a case for taking over the vacant site. Support includes help on writing a business plan and interview tips.
The scheme has so far helped three retailers in the south of England take over post offices and the NFSP plans to convert the remaining 12 within the next six-to-nine months.
David Gold, retail consultant for the NFSP, said marketing for the service will also increase next year. “We want to help retailers increase the likelihood of being able to take over a post office from a retailer who might be selling their business or retiring.
“One of the NFSP’s aims next year is to increase marketing of the service to raise awareness of the service to more potential retailers.”
