Retailers improve lottery mystery shop pass rates

Camelot has revealed that 89% of retailers passed their 2016 lottery mystery shops, up 3% on the previous year.

Camelot has revealed that 89% of retailers passed their 2016 lottery mystery shops, up 3% on the previous year.

The news comes as the lottery company renews its mystery shopping campaign for 2017 to check for under age and irresponsible purchasing.

The mystery shops involve visits from staff members who look under 16. If a retailer fails three mystery shops Camelot states that their National Lottery terminal will be suspended.

The terminal can also be suspended if a store is found to be "undermining the lottery" through selling illicit goods such as alcohol and tobacco, as happened to Good Morning Super Store in Harrow earlier this year.

Camelot’s head of retail James Pearson celebrated the improvement stating, “We’re delighted with the 89% pass-rate and I’d personally like to thank all of our retailers for this achievement. I hope that we can all work together to do even better in 2017.”

New stickers and leaflets on age and responsibly playing checking are currently being distributed to retailers.
