Retailers and leading suppliers unite for the Independent Achievers Academy 2017

The country’s top retailers and leading suppliers were in attendance last week at the launch of the Independent Achievers Academy 2017.

Some of the country’s top retailers and leading suppliers were in attendance at the Retail Study Day for the Independent Achievers Academy 2017 – the flagship business development programme for retailers.

This year’s activity kicked off in Peterborough with the IAA’s inaugural Retail Study Day at Nisa Local Fletton, giving them the opportunity to see fresh and innovative thinking in action in a thriving store.

And key retailers have urged their contemporaries to get involved in the IAA this year as a guaranteed way of driving their businesses forward in 2017 and boosting profits and sales.

Amish Shingadia of Londis Caterways & Post Office in Horsham, Sussex, who was recognised as the overall best shop last year, said: “IAA recognition boosted staff morale, customer service and loyalty which resulted in a 10% sales increase.”

This year’s IAA ambassador is Bay Bashir of Lifestyle Express Belle Vue Convenience in Middlesbrough, who said: “I discovered the IAA five years ago and have never looked back. I’m always looking for new ideas and advice and the IAA is a great – and free – resource for both.

“I’ve seen the results first-hand, with increases in footfall and sales, and I’ve been recognised for the last two years running.

“I love the recognition, but taking part is crucial because it tells me where my shop could improve to keep my customers happy and that’s more valuable than any award.”

The Study Day enabled the retailers present to not only visit Nisa Local Fletton, but to discuss new ideas with other top retailers and network with suppliers. The Retail Profit Guide, which helps retailers benchmark their business to spot the opportunities to grow sales and profits, was launched at the event.

Bashir added: “Benchmarking takes time, but the chance to have an independent expert analyse your shop and how it can improve is invaluable.”
