A retailer has been recognised by the National Lottery for raising over £650,000 for local good causes.

The chair of the National Lottery, Justin King CBE, presented Rashid Khalid, who owns the Broadway Post Office in Cardiff, with a plaque in recognition of his contribution.

The money supported projects such as the Green Squirrel social enterprise in Cardiff, which received £323,000 for its Railway Gardens project.

Commenting on the recognition, Khalid highlighted the importance of National Lottery funding to communities.

“I am personally big on charity and that’s why I know how important The National Lottery is to people and communities,” he said. “At my shop, we always do as much as we can to help those less fortunate in the area.”

King also praised Khalid and the Post Office’s players for their “amazing role” in contributing to National Lottery success stories.

He added: “When people think of The National Lottery, the first thing they probably think of is the big winners that it makes. But retailers like Rashid are critical to the success of The National Lottery and the billions of pounds it raises for good causes every year – funding that goes to projects in his local community and right around the UK.”
