Women in Convenience will be holding a webinar on retail crime on 2 December, which is open to all independent convenience retailers

The Tackling Retail Crime webinar will cover crime and safety in the retail workplace, and offer support and guidance to attendees.

According to the ACS Crime Report 2024, there were 5.6 million incidents of shop theft in the year to 12 January 2024, with the cost of crime for the average store reaching £4,946.

And some retailers are reporting much higher figures. Fiona Malone, of Tenby Stores & Post Office in Pembrokeshire, has made several national TV appearances alongside her husband and business partner Vince, to discuss the impact of retail crime, which she says is costing them £26,000 a year.

The webinar will be hosted by Better Retailing editor in chief Louise Banham, who will be joined by Fiona Malone, and two key officers from the Metropolitan Police, Lisa Maslen and Titus Halliwell.

Lisa Maslen is the Lead Responsible Officer (LRO) for Business Crime in the Metropolitan Police (Met) and is also the LRO for Crime Prevention, while Titus Halliwell is the Head of the Safer Businesses and Partnership Team, which provide bespoke engagement and crime prevention advice for businesses and retailers.

Both Lisa and Titus have been in their current posts since January 2023 and, during that period, have developed a passion for tackling and reducing retail harm in London, understanding that the majority of shop workers are female and have concerns about abuse and assaults in the workspace.

They are both advocates of the National Retail Action Plan and have worked hard to create and implement a Retail Crime Strategy for the Met, focusing on retail harm and the formation of the London Retail Harm Reduction Partnership. The Tackling Retail Crime webinar will take place at 10am on Monday 2 December. To register your interest, please click the button and complete the form.
