Ex-Camelot boss Nigel Railton has been selected as the interim chairman of the Post Office (PO) following the sacking of previous leader Henry Staunton in January.
Railton was appointed by business secretary Kemi Badenoch, and will assume the role as hundreds of subpostmasters continue to wait for compensation over the Horizon IT scandal.
Railton said: “This is an incredibly challenging time for the Post Office as it works to address historic failures while also striving to transform its business.”
Badenoch said she wanted to thank Mr Railton for “stepping up to public service at a time of need”.
“I know he can help fix the issues of the past whilst transforming the company for the future,” she added.
The department’s appointment of Railton signals ‘a new beginning in its relationship with the troubled Post Office’, according to the BBC.
When working for Camelot UK, Railton told the BBC: “I’m always trying to do more. I’m not trying to get to the next Role, I’m trying to do more within the role I’m in. Treat people with respect, as human beings making progress.”
Railton previously spent 24 years at Camelot UK, which operator The National Lottery, and left during a shake-up which saw Allwyn Entertainment acquire Camelot.
Railton also currently chairs Argentex Group, a London-listed provider of currency management services, according to his Linkedin.
