Pladis launches 2020 McVitie’s Cakes Halloween range

Cake bars have grown by 24% in the past two years and are consumed by one in three households

Pladis has launched five new products for Halloween 2020 under two of its leading brands – McVitie’s Jaffa Cakes and McVitie’s Digestives – as well as an additional product under its McVitie’s Funny Bones brand.

Claire Hooper, head of marketing – cake at Pladis, said: “Halloween presents a prime opportunity for retailers to stock seasonal products which encourage consumers to make impulse purchases. Given that cakes are a more impulsive buy than other sweet snacks, it’s undoubtedly an important category for retailers to focus on during the season.

“This year, the seasonal sales opportunity for cakes is bigger than ever. Halloween celebrations are likely to take a different form, with many shoppers swapping parties and trick or treating for watching scary movies or hosting smaller gatherings at home. Cakes are perfectly suited to these occasions, presenting a unique opportunity for retailers to boost sales in the cake category – and give shoppers a festive reason to celebrate.”

The supplier said the Halloween range will be supported by a digital and social media campaign which calls on shoppers to celebrate ‘A dead good night in’ in recognition of this ‘new normal’. The campaign also aims to present a ‘Halloween at home’ message and bring the McVitie’s range to the forefront of shoppers minds.

Below, we’ve summarised everything you need to know about what’s new.
