P&H refit advice boosts sales 13%

Holborn’s in South Nutfield announced major sales growth after a store refurb with P&H.

Holborn’s in South Nutfield has announced major sales rises following a store refurb with the help of P&H.

The overall sales rise of 13% is driven by a 46% uptick in alcohol sales and a 54% uptick in crisps and snacks compared to last year. Store owner Dean Holborn said: “We’re already seeing the benefits of making the changes and investing in our customer experience, which is really the most important thing.”

Holborn, who also runs another Holborn’s store in Redhill Surrey, has been a P&H customer for two decades. The wholesaler lent its support to the improvements by advising on store layout, ranging and merchandising to ensure the store is on-trend and customer friendly.

The three week refit also helped to cut overheads, with eco-friendly LED lights and a larger yet more energy efficient chilled section reducing his first energy bill by £150.

Like many other retailers that have undergone 2017 store updates, Holborn chose to move the gantry, chosing an under-counter tobacco unit in reaction to the new tobacco legislation that came into force earlier this year. The space this created was given over to local wines and premium spirits, helping towards that 46% alcohol sales rise.

Describing the store re-opening, Dean Holborn commented: “I am thrilled with our South Nutfield store.  P&H have been great with their support, consulting with me on range, merchandising and store layout to ensure the store reflects the current market. We’re already seeing the benefits of making the changes and investing in our customer experience, which is really the most important thing.”

Warren Simmons, marketing development manager at P&H said the new format will: “Go above and beyond in servicing the needs of the community.”
