The number of retailers trading under the Go Local fascia increased annually by 22% to 459 stores last summer.

This week, Stockport-based wholesaler Parfetts, who operates the Go Local symbol group, released its trading update for the year ending 30 June. The number of retailers who were members of its Go Local retail club, which offers exclusive promotions, rose by 28% from 2,673 to 3,445 in the same period.

UK wholesale sales increased annually by 10% to £372m, while wholesale gross margins rose by 12% to £26.6m in the year. However, despite the increases in the wholesale business; retail sales at the wholesaler declined year-on-year by 0.5% to £4.075m.

Annual like-for-like sales, which excludes the performance of the Middlesbrough depot Parfetts acquired from Blakemore in 2018, increased by 3.9%.

The company also announced it had incurred nearly £1m in capital expenditure. In the statement it said: “In line with our policy of continually enhancing and upgrading our facilities, we have incurred capital expenditure of £958k in replacing plant equipment and in investing in customer focused areas of our business.

“All this allows for greater customer engagement and reflects our commitment to working closely with customers.”
