The proportion of over-65s buying groceries online has increased from 7% in 2015 to 12% this year, according to the latest Office for National Statistics report.
The report also revealed that 54% of over-65s had shopped online.
With nearly 14 million Brits claiming going to a supermarket is boring, the CEO and founder of scan-and-go tech firm Ubamarket, Will Broome, has urged store owners to invest in technology to streamline shopping.
He said: “If retailers want to remain profitable, technology is one of the ways forward. It can help improve in-store experiences.”
