The Tesco-owned group began the first of four weekly rollouts of its own label range at the end of June. The phases are divided into beef and chicken; pizzas, ready meals and wraps; pork products such as sausages; and fruits, vegetables and salads.
Aman Uppal, of One Stop Mount Nod in Coventry, told Better Retailing the ability to order single pick quantities for his store deliveries will help maintain his overall margins.
“I’ve been a One Stop retailer for the last three and half years and I’ve had to choose to either not stock certain lines or take a gamble because of potential wastage. We’ve been giving One Stop feedback about this and it’s fantastic they’ve finally started taking action.
“For example, we could only get steak in cases of six, or pizzas in cases of eight previously. It’s good for us because we don’t have to worry about our margins reducing anymore and the customers benefit too because they can get access to a much wider range.”
Retailers were informed about the changes through an email from the company this month. Uppal added he had also been informed by One Stop that more products will become available to order in single pick quantities in the future.
Serge Khunkhun, of One Stop Woodcross Convenience Store in Bilston, added: “The move to single pick will be good for retailers like me who have a smaller store. We don’t have to worry about whether we have enough space to hold the stock or wastage, and it will benefit our overall margins.”
Booker, which now supplies One Stop stores, also offers single pick lines, as does Bestway.
