Nisa retailers save 175k meals through Too Good To Go

Nisa's partnership with Too Good To Go has saved 175,000 meals

Nisa retailers are celebrating having saved 175,000 meals through mobile app Too Good To Go to mark Stop Food Waste Day.

Nisa partnered with Too Good To Go in 2019, an app that allows retailers to reduce the amount of food waste in store by advertising discounted items that may be in surplus or nearing expiry.

Ian Bacon, regional retail manager at Nisa, said: “Every Nisa store that has so far partnered with Too Good To Go has given positive feedback about how simple the app is to use and the impact on the local community.

“I know many of our retailers are really passionate about environmental issues and partnering with Too Good To Go is a fantastic way of preventing excessive waste of food products.”

How Too Good to Go helps retailers reduce food waste

More than 300 Nisa stores have signed up with the app, the latest figure equates to 477,187 kilograms of CO2 emissions avoided.

This is equivalent to 83 flight tickets around the world.

The app is free to download, and customers are given ‘Surprise Bags’ of food to prevent wastage.

Sophie Trueman, country director at Too Good To Go UK/IE, added: “Since partnering with Nisa in 2019, their commitment and active involvement have made them a valuable partner in our mission to reduce food waste. The Nisa team has consistently demonstrated their dedication, enthusiasm, and provided invaluable support.

“Together, we have successfully saved 175,000 meals to date, a significant achievement in our efforts to reduce food waste. This milestone reflects our shared commitment to sustainability and the positive influence businesses can have when working together. With Nisa’s continued support, we look forward to reaching new milestones and making an even greater impact.”
