Nisa retailer retires after 45 Years in Brookeborough

Nisa said Benny McClave will be 'greatly missed by customers'

Independent retailer Benny McClave has retired after 45 years of service in the village of Brookeborough, Northern Ireland.

 McClave, who opened ‘Benny’s shop’ in 1979, handed over the store on 7 March.

Throughout his career, McClave’s shop evolved through various fascias before ultimately joining Nisa. Reflecting on his retirement, McClave said he would miss the “company and pleasure of serving customers”.

“It took me a long time to get to know people and their faces,” he said. “And I suppose it took them a long time to get to know me too. It’s been a lifetime – 45 years – I’m bound to miss it.”

Nigel Maxwell, regional retail manager in Northern Ireland for Nisa paid tribute to McClave’s “dedication, kindness and wonderful sense of humour”.

He added: “His generosity and commitment to local causes have been truly remarkable. He will be greatly missed by customers, colleagues, and the wider Nisa family. We wish him all the best in his well-earned retirement.”
