NFRN subsidiary National Newsagent Network (N3) beat Tesco and newsagents News on the Wharf to win Retailer of the Year at the News and Magazine Awards (NMA).
Set up in 2015, N3 aims to give independents the same support and influence as multiples when dealing with publishers and distributors. It has previously taken collective action such as boycotting the Daily Star over cover price cuts.
Judges credited them stating “N3 has demonstrated an ability to bring together consistency and compliance to a growing panel of independent retailers. This is a significant challenge to overcome."
National Newsagent Network director Brian Murphy and NFRN president Ray Monelle accepted the award from Mail Newspaper’s Paul Duffy. Describing the win Murphy stated, “Over the past year we have teamed up with publishers to run some exciting and exclusive consumer promotions that have resulted in double digit sales increases for the titles involved.”
Now in its 66th year, the NMA event saw the Radio Times selected by independent retailers as their Publication of the Year. Smiths News also picked up Supply Chain Company of the Year despite reoccurring criticism from retailers related to delivery slots.
