NewstrAid is launching an Excellence Award to celebrate newspaper and magazine industry heroes who go above and beyond in helping to support those working in the newstrade.
The first recipient of the award is Lidia Pope from Smiths News, Birmingham who received the accolade from NewstrAid CEO, Neil Jagger on 30 March.
Neil said: “We decided to launch this new award so that some of the amazing people who are providing help to their colleagues every day in our industry are acknowledged and understand how grateful we are to them and how important their work is.
“Lidia is an excellent example of someone who has gone that extra mile for their colleagues. Having seen some of the support NewstrAid was offering during the Cost of Living Crisis she made sure that her colleagues who did not speak English as their first language understood how they could apply for help and what was available to them. Her work has resulted in a number of successful applications for financial help from people who really needed it.”
NewstAid raises funds to provide financial help, emotional support and advice to those who work or have worked in all parts of the supply chain, from printers to the counter.
Winners of the award will see details of their work published on the NewstrAid website, social media accounts and in newsletters.
To nominate colleagues in the newspaper and magazine industry, you can send an email to mail@newstraid.org.uk outlining why that person should be the recipient of a NewstrAid Excellence Award.
