Jonathan Powell, owner of The Newsagent Direct in Newport is a Nectar point millionaire after winning the NFRN and MyMail’s joint sales competition.
The retailer won one million points (worth approximately £5,000), for his work using social media and HND leaflets to promote the MyMail and Nectar Card partnership, which in turn lead to additional sales.
Using Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin posts, more than 13,000 people were made aware of the offer and Powell’s store.
Mail sales manager Andy Law described Powell’s efforts stating: “Jonathan promoted the scheme in a really creative way, and we are pleased his business reaped the benefits with some fantastic sales growth.”
NFRN CEO Paul Baxter congratulated Jonathan and said the competition: “Demonstrates how well independent retailers can support national promotions to their customers.”
Speaking to Retail Express, Jonathan Powell explained how he’d upped his sales stating: “I think the number one thing I got right in this instance was using the delivermynewspaper.co.uk offer in promoting my HND service, I think it comes across as a good offer to customers. For the Mail, the Nectar Points offer made it an especially strong message on my leaflets and social media marketing.”
Asked how he’d be spending his points, Powell answered: “We plan on giving all the team and the team who deliver to us from Smiths a present. We'll also get us all kitted out for winter which can be harsh when we are all out and about at 5am!”
If you were wondering what exactly one million Nectar points represents, Powell could chose to buy 602 pizzas from Pizza Express, 2,857 coffees from Café Nero or an all-inclusive two week holiday for two to Barbados.
