Post Office launches online tool to help postmasters maximise sales data

The technology is expected to be rolled out nationwide over the next few weeks

The Post Office (PO) has developed a new online branch performance tool to support postmasters increase volume and remuneration using their own specific sales data.

Over 700 postmasters have been involved in pilots using the technology, which is expected to be rolled out nationwide over the next few weeks.

PO said the tool was developed in direct response to feedback from postmasters who asked for more up-to-date sales and remuneration data available in one easy-to-use place.

Postmasters will be able to view and download data relating to their branches, including:

  • Weekly remuneration by product group
  • Weekly mails product sales by volume and value, including percentage split of higher rate products
  • Weekly customer sessions and transaction volumes
  • Weekly Mails product sales by individual staff member
  • Monthly operational performance data (e.g., mails segregation, mails compliance, mystery shop results).

The tool will be available on Branch Hub – the platform launched by the PO where postmasters can order coin and cash, stationery and other stock and PPE, as well as access a range of support and IT services.

Postmasters will have full control over which data (if any) they want their staff to see, meaning they can share details with their branch managers should they wish to.

PO’s business transformation director, Zdravko Mladenov said: “Our ambition is to be a successful, sustainable and sought-after franchise which works for all our partners. We’re clear that we need to support Postmasters by helping to drive footfall and in turn allowing them to increase their remuneration. We have created the Branch Performance tool in response to direct feedback from Postmasters.

“Many postmasters work long hours. In the past, it has often been laborious to track and analyse sales performance after hours behind the till. Now, with branch performance, Postmasters will be able to easily see on Branch Hub how their products are performing, benchmark that performance over time and with peers, and link remuneration to the sales data.

“We are extremely grateful that so many postmasters participated in the focus groups and pilots as we developed this new tool. Together, we are confident we have built a lasting product to provide our Postmasters with the information they need to grow their business further.”
