PayPoint-partnered retailer-rewards app MyStore+ is to close, with stores given less than two weeks to ensure they can receive funds owed.
The service, which was launched by field-rep agency McCurach and News UK in 2019, was billed as “the future of retail engagement”.
The app paid retailers for tasks such as taking photos of planogram-compliant fixtures and provided product deals through partnerships with brands including Unilever, Pernod Ricard and Britvic.
In 2021, PayPoint made the app available to its partnered stores.
However, News UK is understood to have drastically scaled back its collaboration with McCurach, including activity on the MyStore+.
A message sent to retailers last week read: “We’ve not reached the level of offers and rewards that feel like a viable offer for retailers, meaning now is the time to close the application.”
Gordon Neil, managing director of McCurrach sister company Thumbprint, told Better Retailing the threshold for balance payouts had been cut from £20 to £5. “This enables us to ensure the retailers who have engaged with MyStore+ are paid their balance,” he said.
Messages seen by Better Retailing warn that stores must ensure payment details on the app are up to date by 6 August to guarantee they receive their final payout, scheduled for 13 August.
