Murdered retailer’s son continues business with help from suppliers

The son of murdered retailer Javaid Ali has spoken about how he and his family have kept the family business on track with help from suppliers.
In June 2012, Paisley shopkeeper Mr Ali was attacked in his shop, Sunshine Grocers, and tragically died two weeks later.  His son, Abbas Ali, took over the shop and one of the things he did was to write a letter to PayPoint to let the company know what had happened to his father and that he was taking over the business..

He said: “What happened to my father has obviously been devastating for my family and me.  However, I took the decision to run the family business despite never expecting to do so.”

paypointPayPoint MD Seamus Smith responded by sending Abbas a cheque for £1,000 to help with costs while the shop was closed during the police investigation. He also arranged for the rental fees the business had paid for the terminal to be refunded promptly.

He said: “Mr Ali is a fine example of a young man who has taken on responsibility for the family business in truly awful circumstances and I am delighted that we are able to help him financially, on top of the expert retailing advice to help him get his shop back on its feet to continue serving the local community.”
