Morrisons fallout leaves My Local with empty shelves

The planned grand opening of 140 new My Local convenience stores has suffered a setback.

The stores were due to open today, Monday October 26. However, a disagreement with former store owner Morrisons over the price of remaining stock on Friday means they will open with just a skeleton range of products.

According to My Local founder Mike Greene, the supermarket giant was supposed to remove only own-label products as part of the handover at midnight on Sunday. However, the shelves were stripped completely.

“It’s left us in a position where we’re missing £4m-worth of stock. Nisa has tried to help by getting as much additional stock as possible, but it will take a day or two for us to fill the stores,” Greene told Retail Express.

The stores will open and full range from new supplier Nisa is due to be in place by the end of this week.

Greene was speaking exclusively to Retail Express at the My Local Ilkley store. Look out for a full report and gallery later this week.
